With messy desks, cluttered credenzas, long-forgotten files or desktops littered with now-useless icons, you may have realized that your days are spent putting out fires and just trying to keep up. While there really is no “best” time to get your office organized, there is actually no “better” time than December!

Why not spend a few minutes each day to catch up, clear the clutter and start the New Year fresh and new? Here are some easy 15-minute projects to do around your office, home office or cubicle from now through the end of the year.

Décor – Re-evaluate and remove old personal memorabilia and knick knacks
Desktop – Remove anything that you do not use every single day and place it somewhere else
Storage – Use containers to house infrequent extra supplies or tools
Cleaning – Wipe down your desktop, phone and keyboard
Delete – Clear old files, pictures and projects from your computer desktop
Return it- Review and relocate unnecessary supplies back to the supply room
Date it – Move & organize old dated files while also making new folders for 2012

Whether giving it just 5, 10 or 15 minutes, make the most out of December by getting yourself organized NOW in time for the start of the New Year!

With the 1st day of fall and October already here, it’s time to get out all of your festive decorations… this weekend! There is no sense in storing your Halloween and fall decorations all year long, only to put them out a few weeks before it’s time to decorate the Christmas tree. This year, get ahead of things by decorating the interior and exterior of your home early so you are able to enjoy all things fall for a full two months!

We haven’t even made it to the half-way point of September and there is a ton of Christmas merchandise already in stores. Over the last few days, I have seen Christmas candy, ornaments, and two aisles of Christmas decor in Costco! These stores try to work on you early, hoping that you’ll break down well before the holidays and buy things you don’t need… before you’re even able to realize it!

I challenge you to resist the urge to buy every cute Christmas decoration you see until you have gotten out your stash and can assess what you already have. It is important to stay focused and not go crazy buying decor simply because you can’t remember everything you have, what you didn’t even use last year, or what you bought on clearance that you haven’t even used yet. Be cautious over the next couple of months… you’ll thank me when you still have money to spend on gifts in December!

I have been asked to give some tips on how parents can be more organized and efficient for the start of the upcoming school year.
